Viola C. Campany, 101, formerly of Curtis Apts., Watertown passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at Heritage Health Care Center, Utica where she had resided since November 23, 2015.
A funeral service will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, May 6, at 1PM with Rev. Steven Murray, pastor of Holy Family Church, presiding and burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
Viola was born in Croghan on December 5, 1914, daughter of Leroy and Mary Smith Wilcox and she graduated from Augustinian Academy, Carthage in 1935. She married Lyle F. Campany in June 1939 at St. Peter's Church, Lowville and he passed on January 21, 1995.
She kept books, did payroll and freight rating for several businesses around the Watertown area including Mercy Hospital and the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. After her retirement she enjoyed working at the voting polls. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Council 350 Auxiliary. When her husband, Lyle, was a local officer and regional representative for the NYS Retired Teachers Assoc., she served on its hospitality committee for several years. The couple enjoyed their cottages and their time spent on Lake Ontario and Viola especially loved celebrating any holiday.
She is survived by her five children, her twins, Patricia C. Campany, Watertown and Patrick M. and Marjorie Campany, Palm Coast, FL, C. Thomas and Beverly Campany, Clayton, Jerome A. and Maria Campany, Watertown and Andrew D. and Suzanne Campany, Valencia, CA; five grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; sister, Rose Smith, Boonville; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her husband, Lyle, Viola was predeceased by her granddaughter, Alycia Campany, and ten brothers and sisters.
