Stephen R. Johnson

Steven R. Johnson, 65, of Watertown, NY and formerly of WV, passed away Thursday morning, February 18, 2016, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

Services will be at the family's convenience and arrangements are entrusted to Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Steven was born in Welch, WV on January 23, 1951, the son of Calvin R. and Geneva G. Perdue Johnson. He was a Vietnam War Army Veteran who served with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and became a POW during his tour in Vietnam. He was later awarded a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged with full disability as an E5 in 1970. He later met and married Wanda Kaye Duncan who predeceased him in death on April 21, 2002.

He was a member and enrolled in the priesthood of the Church of Latter Day Saints. Steven was a member of several VFW's and American Legions. He enjoyed reading, traveling, dancing and storytelling.

He is survived by his ten children, Steven Johnson, IN, Cleopatra Johnson, TX, Astro Johnson, NC, Jack Johnson, NC, Jeremiah and Connie Johnson, Watertown, NY, Virginia Johnson, AL, Rambo Johnson, WV, Calvin and Brianne Johnson, WV, Geneva Johnson, WV, and Juanita Johnson, WV; nineteen grandchildren and his first great grandson was born shortly after he passed. He is also survived by his five sisters, Celena Mullins, Billie Ann Blankenship, Missy Coleman, Miranda Rimb, and Kathy Johnson, all of WV; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his wife, Wanda, he was predeceased by his brother, Alvin Johnson, and his sister, Charmelee Johnson.

Dear Dad, I just wanted to tell you I miss you and I'm heartbroken that you are no longer with us. But i know you are in a better place and your with Mom now. I love you and I'll see you in the clouds someday.
