Jerry TufoJerry C. Tufo, 81, N. Pleasant St., Watertown passed away at his home on Friday, August 21, 2015 with loving family members at his side.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Tuesday, August 25, from 5 - 8PM. A prayer service will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 26, at 10:15AM followed by the funeral mass celebrated at Holy Family Church at 11AM with Rev. Steven Murray, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. A 1 p.m. gathering to follow at Italian-American Civic Assoc.

Jerry was born in Watertown on August 13, 1934, son of Samuel and Louisa Esposito Tufo and graduated from Watertown High School. On April 6, 1957 he married Carrol J. Gearhart in Minneapolis, MN.

On September 8, 1954 he enlisted in U.S. Air Force and was assigned to many bases across the United States including overseas tours to Korea, Vietnam, Azores, Thule Greenland, and Tehran Iran. Jerry received numerous commendations and awards such as the Air Force Medal, Longevity Service Award, and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired honorably as a Technical Sergeant on September 30, 1974. After moving to Watertown in 1973, he worked for Giovanni's Restaurant and Amelio's Sewing & Vacuum.

He was a communicant of Holy Family Church and was a greeter, usher, and collector. Jerry was a member of Watertown Knights of Columbus Council 259, Bishop Conroy General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Italian American Club, and American Legion Post 61. He enjoyed woodworking, clock making, reading and Sudoku puzzles, bowling, golfing, and loved old western movies.

Along with his wife, Carrol, he is survived by his four children, Catherine M. Tufo, Watertown, Jerry J. and Un Mi Tufo, Greenville, SC, Patricia L. and Daniel Tower, N. Bangor, and Paula J. Tufo-Ford and husband, Scott Ford, Brownville; four grandchildren, Jerry J. Tufo, Jr., Helena A. Breshears, Daniel W. Tower and Rachel J. Tower; brother, Samuel and Lois Tufo, Watertown; three sisters, Dora Barkman, Alexandria Bay, Veronica Lafontaine, Watertown and Joanne and Walter Jones, Forsyth, GA; sister-in-law, Jenny Tufo, Watertown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Bernard "Benny" Tufo and two sisters, Edith Seymour and Mary Neuroth. Will be remembered foremost as a family man by wife, best Dad and Grandpa in the world from his children and grandchildren, and everyone's handyman.
