Roseline B. Ebblie

Roseline B. Ebblie, 95, NYS Rt. 180, Town of Orleans/Watertown, passed away Monday, June 1, 2015, at Hospice of Jefferson County at the Ellis Farm. She had been at Samaritan Summit Village for a short time with her husband.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Thursday, June 4, from 2:30PM - 4:30PM. A graveside service will be in Stone Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family with Rev. Earl J. LaLone, pastor of Clayton United Methodist Church, presiding.

Mrs. Ebblie was born in the Town of Alexandria on March 6, 1920, daughter of Addison and Margaret Knell Bretsch. She was a graduate of LaFargeville High School and Watertown School of Commerce. On October 12, 1944 she married Robert W. Ebblie at her parents home in LaFargeville with Rev. Malibar officiating.

She worked as a secretary at Pine Camp and was a homemaker. Roseline was a member of the Home Bureau, Republican Club, Stone Mills Agricultural Museum, at which she was very active throughout her life, and had been the LaFargeville Central School tax collector. Her enjoyments included gardening, stamp and coin collecting, card playing, reading, and scrapbooking. She also enjoyed local history and genealogy.

Besides her husband, Robert, she is survived by her three children, Rosan E. Whitmore, John R. Ebblie and Joan E. Ebblie, all in the town of Orleans; three grandchildren, Kristin, Kerry, and Scott (Carrie) Whitmore; two great grandchildren Abigale and Liam Whitmore; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her son-in-law, David B. Whitmore, died June 30, 2007 and her brother, Malcolm Bretsch, died in 1980.
