Mary B. Russell, 86, of Clayton and formerly of Watertown passed away following a brief illness on Saturday, May 2, 2015, at Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown.
Calling Hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton on Thursday, May 7, from 5 - 7PM. On Friday, May 8, there will be Calling Hours at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 214 Sterling St., Watertown from 11AM - 12:30PM. A Prayer Service will follow at 12:45PM and the Funeral Mass will celebrated at St. Patrick's Church, Watertown at 1:30PM with Rev. Donald Robinson, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mary was born in Watertown on August 22, 1928, daughter of Edward and Margaret Griffin Barry. She was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy and the Watertown School of Commerce. On February 13, 1960 she married Richard A. Russell at St. Patrick's Church. He passed away on January 2, 1994.
Mary was a devoted wife to Richard and a loving mother and grandmother. In her younger years, she enjoyed family trips to Florida and other vacations, and more recently enjoyed reading, knitting, and going out for dinner. Mrs. Russell was also a bookkeeper for the family businesses. She worked for Watertown Bottling, 5th Wheel Restaurant, Upstate Amusement Co., and Library Restaurant, all in Watertown, and for Lost Navigator Bar and Restaurant, Clayton. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Clayton and formerly of St. Patrick's Church, Watertown. She and her husband, Richard, lived in Watertown until moving to Clayton in 1991. She was a member of the Colon Couch American Legion Auxiliary Post 821 in Clayton and the Watertown Elks Lodge 496, and was a social member of the Clayton Yacht Club.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Barry G. and wife, Alison, London, England and Brian R., Clayton, two grandchildren, Patrick Richard Russell and Alexandra Elise Russell, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her brother, Edward Barry, died in 1974.
