Hilda Reinman

January 25, 2015

Hilda (Nan) Reinman, 95, of Clayton passed January 25, 2015 surrounded by family and friends.

Hilda was born August 30, 1919 on Pt. Penninsula, daughter of Howard P. and Grace Halliday Cheever. When she was an infant, the family moved to the town of Clayton and she attended area schools. She graduated from Clayton High School with the class of 1936.

She married Murray J. Reinman on September 7, 1940 at St. Mary's Church with the Rev. George E. Racette officiating. Mr. Reinman died April 15, 1995.

Murray and Hilda established Reinman's Furniture and Hardware in 1946 and operated it until 1972 when their son, James, took over. Hilda's granddaughter, Mary Heyman and her husband, Bill, have operated the store since 1991 with the youngest granddaughter, Melissa Tinney, joining forces in 1993.

Hilda had a fun loving spirit, whose life was centered around her family. She enjoyed dancing and traveling with her husband and entertaining family and friends at their home and the cottage on the River. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a member of its St. Anne's Altar & Rosary Society.

Surviving are her two children, James (Gloria) Reinman, Clayton and Shirley (Ernie) Pitcher, Dexter; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; sisters, Isabelle Howard, Chaumont and Mary Turcotte, Clayton; brother, Howard Cheever, Chaumont; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, Murray, she was predeceased by her sister, June Corp.

As per her wishes, there will be no calling hours. There will be a Memorial Mass celebrated at St. Mary's Church at a time and date to be announced. Arrangements are entrusted to Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.

Donations can be made to St. Mary's Church, 521 James St., Clayton, NY 13624, Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601, or to River Hospital Foundation, 43861 NYS Rt. 12, Alexandria Bay, NY 13607. Online condolences to her family may be made at www.cummingsfuneral.com
