Alton J. "Butch" Gushlaw, 74, NYS Rt. 12, Clayton died Saturday evening, September 20, 2014, at his home.
A calling hour will be held at Depauville United Methodist Church on Thursday, September 25, from 9:30 - 10:30AM followed by the funeral service at 11AM with Donna Fitchette, Certified Lay Minister, presiding. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery, town of Cape Vincent. Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.
Butch was born in N. Bangor on March 22, 1940, son of Herman L. and Marjorie A. Trim Gushlaw and he attended Clayton schools. He married Shirley M. Cox at Clayton United Methodist Church on September 6, 1958.
He worked for the Town of Clayton in the D. P. W. department and he enjoyed woodworking and grilling. He also enjoyed camping in the Adirondacks with his family.
Besides his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his five sons, Joseph E. and wife, Tina, Danny L. and companion, Susan Brown, Chris M., and Jeff J., all of Clayton, and Rick A., Gouverneur; daughter, Margie M. Doctour, Redwood; fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; three brothers and their wives, Herman E. and Patricia, Clayton, Ferris F. "Biff" and Linda, Clayton and FL, and Rudolph G. and Louise, MA; sister and her husband, Myrtle and Albert Allard, MA; sister-in-law, Jean Gushlaw, Clayton; two aunts, Becky Pacific and Ruth Trim; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Butch was predeceased by his brother, Athol J. "Stub" Gushlaw and sister, Alvira Kirkland.
