Gladys A. Cole

Gladys A. Cole, 111, long-time former resident of W. Division St., Watertown passed away Wednesday evening, July 2, 2014, at Samaritan Keep Home where she had resided since 2010.

A graveside service will be at North Watertown Cemetery at a later date. There will be no other calling hours or service and arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Mrs. Cole was born in Watertown on February 13, 1903, daughter of Frank and Florence Forsyth Lyon and she attended schools in Watertown. On November 12, 1927 she married John N. Cole and John, a machinist for NY Airbrake for 45 years, died November 22, 1990.

Prior to her marriage Gladys worked at both Toohey Silk and Shaughnessy Knitting Mills. She was a member and past president of the Northside Improvement League Auxiliary and with her husband was very active in their dinners. She was a member and former officer of Rebecca's Lodge and also a former member of the VFW Post 1400 Auxiliary. Her main enjoyment was being a homemaker and a mother to four sons that all served in the US Marine Corps.

She is survived by her four children, Edward J. Cole, Oceanside, CA, Earl W. and Linda Cole, Clayton, Florence M. "Flo" Lyng, Pulaski, and Richard G. "Jack" Cole, New Rochelle; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, John, she was predeceased by her son, Robert F. Cole, April 17, 1983, 2 grandsons, 2 brothers, William and George Lyon, and her sister, Helen Blair.
