Hazel E. Dixon

Hazel E. Dixon, 98, formerly of Clayton, passed away Tuesday morning, February 11, 2014, at Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown where she had resided since November 21, 2011.

A memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church, Clayton followed by burial in Clayton Cemetery will be held in the spring at a time and date to be announced. There will be no calling hours and arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.

Hazel was born in Arden, Ontario, Canada on October 13, 1915, daughter of Britton W. and Florence Kiel Barker. The family moved to the US when she was young, and she graduated from LaFargeville Central School in 1935.

On April 14, 1937 she married Gerald H. Dixon in Oswego. Mr. Dixon, a machinist at Frink SnoPlow, died May 29, 1988.

Mrs. Dixon was a homemaker and an excellent cook. Her family and friends were most appreciative and will always remember all of the fine food she prepared. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and a proud member of the Gay Nineties Group. She was a member of both the Order of the Eastern Star and the American Legion Colon Couch Post 821 Ladies Auxiliary, Clayton.

She is survived by her three children, Shirley D. and Harold G. Carpenter, Clayton, John B. and Judy M. Dixon, Macedon, and J. Lydia Dixon, Green Valley, AZ; five grandchildren, Tracy L. and James Brabant and Tory C. Jones, all of Clayton, Derek L. Dixon, Spokane, WA, Mark A. Dixon and his wife, Hue Ho, Seattle, WA, and Patrick J. Dixon, Oswego; five great grandchildren, Elise H. and Zachary Flynt, Watertown, Elaine Hazel Jones, Jacksonville, FL, Heather R. Dixon, Spokane, WA, and Lewis Dixon and Julia Dixon, both of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her six brothers, Ernest E., Edward C., Loren F., Harry W., Clifford A., and Frederick B. Barker, and her sister, Jane B. Landon, died before her.
