Theresa “Anne” Elliott

January 31, 2024

Theresa Anne Elliott.jpgTheresa “Anne” Elliott, 93 of Watertown, passed away Wednesday evening, January 31, 2024, at Samaritan Summit Village, surrounded by her loved ones.

Anne was born on February 9, 1930, at Mercy Hospital in Watertown to Peter and Elizabeth (Brennan) Edus. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1947 and attended Potsdam State Teachers College after graduation.

On December 29, 1948, Anne married Charles (Chuck) Elliott at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, with the Reverend Albert Plante officiating. Anne and Chuck raised 6 children together and were married for 67 years at the time of Chuck’s passing in November of 2016. Over all those years, Anne took pride in raising her children and taking care of the family home.

As a former member of the Girl Scouts, Anne was her daughters’ Brownie leader and the troop organizer for Sacred Heart Church. She participated in local Women's and Co-ed Couples bowling leagues. Anne was active in her church, serving on the Altar and Rosary Society. She often helped the church and its members. She was a long-time member of the Sacred Heart Church Choir. Anne believed in the power of prayer and demonstrated this often. It was common that family and friends would request she say special prayers to her “Angels” on their behalf.

Anne leaves behind a number of family dogs that were one of her main loves. After she had patiently listened to a family member tell about their latest activities, she always had to get an update on the “furry” family members. Truth be told, she often wanted this information first!

Anne was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football, the New York Yankees, and the Buffalo Bills. She closely followed Syracuse Lacrosse when her grandson was a member of the team.

Anne is survived by her children, Wib Elliott (Jo), Granger, IN, Elizabeth Elliott, Watertown, NY, Carol Tinsley (John), Watertown, NY, Susan Ambrose (Roger), Brownville, NY, Michele McKinney (Bill), Watertown, NY, and a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Elliott, Wellesley Island, NY. She had 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren (plus one on the way). Her grandchildren include Bridget, James, Sarah, Elizabeth (Bess), Mathew, Katie, Mitchell, Alex, Abbey, Zachary, Jayson, Maggie, Lauren, Kat, and Bradley. She is also survived by a sister, Helen Sciarra, Pittsfield, MA, and brother, Joseph Edus, Brownville, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, Anne is predeceased by her son Charles (Mike) Elliott, grandson William Elliott McKinney, granddaughter Kate Elliott Ortega, sister Mary Marconi, and brother Leonard Edus.

Prior to entering Samaritan Summit Village, and after the death of her husband, Anne was able to live in her home for a few years with the assistance of home care workers. Without the care, friendship, and dedication of these wonderful ladies, this would never have been possible. You know who you are, please know her family will always be grateful for your presence in her life! Anne’s family also wants to thank the many staff members at Samaritan Summit Village who provided her with such personal and loving care over the last few years. Your efforts did not go unnoticed or unappreciated!

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc. in Watertown on Sunday, February 4, from 3 - 6 pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church on Monday, February 5, at 11 am with the Rev. Frank Natale presiding, and burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Online condolences to her family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In memory of Anne’s love for dogs and unwavering faith, she has asked that donations, in her name, be directed to the Jefferson County SPCA, 25056 Water Street, Watertown, NY 13601, or, to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, 320 West Lynde Street, Watertown, NY 13601.

Dear Wib/Jo,Kathy,Be tsy, Carol/John,Susa n/Roger and Shelly/Bill: I was deeply saddened to hear of your mom's passing, Tho I know is in a better place. She was a "Great Lady" and much like a second mother to me. She accepted me into your family when I was only 13 years old. She taught me so much about how to be a good wife and loving mom. I am forever blessed to have been part of your family gatherings. I have missed you all and look for to joining them with Jesus someday. Love you, Donna Cronk

Dear Elliott Family,

My mom, Mary Quencer, and I were saddened to learn of Anne’s passing. I remember following the Elliott “girls” around when we lived at Kring Point in the summers. And getting together other summers at Keewaydin. My parents were fond of your parents and my mom has lots of good memories. Sending you peace and healing during this difficult time.
