George A. Grappotte, Sr.

George A Grappotte SrGeorge A. Grappotte, Sr., 94, of Watertown passed away Thursday morning, January 11, 2024, at Samaritan Summit Village. His family wants to thank the nurses and aides on 1st Floor Side A at SSV for their care and devotion to him.

George was born in Watertown March 31, 1929, son of George A. and Mary (Mullen) Grappotte and he was a graduate of Immaculate Heart Academy. On March 15, 1951, he entered the US Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on March 14, 1953.

On October 17, 1953, George married Jane Marie Beach at St. Patrick's Church. Mrs. Grappotte, a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital, died December 15, 1989.

For 44 years, he worked for Sears & Roebuck Co. George worked in the sales department, in the paint and tool department, and when he retired in January 1991, he was an appliance salesman. He was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. He was a member of Elks Lodge 496 and a former member of American Legion Post 61. George enjoyed hunting and spending time with his friends in the Indian Beaver Hunting Club.

He is survived by three children, Deborah A. Hoffere and husband Bruce E., Rochester, Joan E. Grappotte Carlo, Watertown, and George A. "Skip" Grappotte, Congers; four grandchildren, G. Ross and Lorraine Grappotte and Janelle and Allison Martinez; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Along with his parents and wife, Jane, George was predeceased by two daughters, Suzanne M. Grappotte, November 5, 1995, and Sharon J. Grappotte, July 26, 2020; and three sisters, Janet Watkins, Marjorie Haley, and Mary Agnes Warren.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown on Friday, January 19, from 4 to 6 pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20, at 10 am at St. Patrick's Church followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery. Online condolences to George's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in his name to the Suzanne M. Grappotte Memorial Scholarship at Immaculate Heart Central School, 1316 Ives St., Watertown, NY 13601.
