Shirley J. "Shoo" Lewis

November 11, 2023

Shirley J. "Shoo" Lewis, 75, of Watertown passed away Saturday evening, November 11, 2023, at Samaritan Keep Home.

Shirley was born in Watertown May 22, 1948, daughter of Harry and Mary (Forbes) Lewis and she was a graduate of Watertown High School in 1966. She worked for twenty years as an equipment operator for Northland Electric. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church and was a member of several women's bowling leagues and a standout women's softball player.

"Shoo" was the life of any party and loved dressing as Dracula on Halloween, everything Elvis Presley and fire department memorabilia and collectables. Additionally, she had a great love and respect for the Watertown Fire Department as she would monitor her scanners and often respond to watch them in action and save lives. She often joked she was a firefighter in a former life.

Thoughout the years, Aunt Shoo very much enjoyed spending time with her nephews and neice: Scott, Eric, Melissa, and Alex at her home on W. Main Street, before becoming a resident at Samaritan Keep Home in 2009. Also, she loved her friends and neighbors who lived in and around her neighborhood. She always thought of them as family. Shirley's family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Keep Home for their care and devotion.

She is survived by her sister and husband; Juanita M. and Ora Soluri, Watertown, NY; three nephews, one neice and eight great nieces and nephews, and their families.

At her request there will be no calling hours or funeral mass. A private graveside service will be held in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown and online condolences to Shirley's family may be posted at www.cummingsfuneral.com

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6520 N. Andrews Ave., Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33309.

I remember when she got to ride in a firetruck at the fair grounds Parade and she got to pull the cord to sound the siren. She was so excited, you could hear through the city !! She sure like to have fun. Rest in peace.
