Gloria M. Gallagher

September 3, 2013

Gloria Mabel (Ayers) Gallagher, 82, Smithville, NY. died September 3rd in Samaritan Keep Home where she has been a resident since 2010.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 7, 10AM, at Holy Family Church with Rev. Steven Murray officiating and burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. There are no calling hours and arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Born November 18, 1930, in Brier Hill, NY, daughter of Harry Ayers and Thelma Hill Curtis, she married Rollin T. Gallagher on October 20, 1951, at Saint Mary's Church in Ogdensburg.

As a child, Gloria spent 13 summers on Lake Azonia with her family. She graduated from high school in 1948 from Ogdensburg Free Academy. Gloria completed her nursing degree (RN) in 1951 from St. Lawrence State Hospital. She then completed her internship at Willard Parker Hospital in New York City.

From 1961-1992, Gloria and Rollin raised their family on the shores of Lake Ontario. Gloria worked for EJ Noble Hospital, House of the Good Shepherd, Samaritan Keep Home, and Jefferson County.

Surviving besides her husband are 5 children, Brenda (Robert) Lankford, Maryland, Robert (Cathy) Gallagher, Three Mile Bay, Erin Martinez, Watertown, Steven (Sue) Gallagher, Carthage, and Ed Gallagher, unknown.

Gloria also leaves a sister, Diane Claffey, Massena, and a brother, Ross (Karen) Ayers, Buffalo, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gloria was happiest with a child on her lap. Her smile was true and contagious and her words were honest and from the heart. She loved and cherished her years spent on the shoreline. Her hard work ethic has been passed down and her belief in prayer will not be forgotten. She will be greatly missed by family, neighbors, caregivers, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in to Holy Family Church, 129 Winthrop St., Watertown, NY 13601 or to the Smithville Fire Department, County Route 75, Adams, NY 13605. Online condolences may be made at www.cummingsfuneral.com.
