Robert J. Lydon

Robert J. (Bob) Lydon, 98, NYS Rt. 37, Watertown passed away Friday morning, August 23, 2013, at his home under the care of his family, aides, and Hospice.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 27, at 10AM at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with Rev. Pierre Aubin, MSC officiating with burial following in Glenwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Bob was born in Syracuse on July 25, 1915, son of John J. and Mary F. Moore Lydon. He graduated from Syracuse Central School and received a BA in Accounting from Syracuse University in 1939.

On July 18, 1942 he married Mary Louise Teubner at St. Mary's Church, Alexandria, VA and she died December 6, 2012.

He served in the US Army Air Corp. during World War II and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. After his service to his country, he was a salesman for Smith Restaurant Supply, Syracuse from 1946 - 1960. In 1960 he became the owner and officer of Black River Restaurant Supply and the couple moved to Watertown in 1961. He owned the business until 1975, and then worked as a sales rep and specialty advertiser for Newton Manufacturing Co., Newton, IA.

Bob attended Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 61, Elks Lodge 496, and Salvation Army Advisory Board. He was an honorary member of Watertown Rotary Club and a former volunteer for both North Pole and Calcium Fire Depts.

He is survived by his six children and their spouses, John R. and Betsy Lydon, Syracuse, Patrick D. and Ann Lydon, Webster, Christine and Paul Zoltowski, Spencer, Terrance J. Lydon and his wife, Leone Lehman, Northport, FL, Bonnie and Michael Yonkovig, Henderson Harbor, and Matthew J. and Constance Lydon, Hamburg; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; one niece, three nephews, and several cousins. Besides his wife, Mary Louise, he was predeceased by his sister, Mary Louise Topp, May 5, 1983.
