Clayton has lost a valued volunteer, leader and member of the community who was active in the school district, Lions, library and Methodist church. The educational system has lost a devoted leader and innovator who was responsible for the health insurance that most educators in the North Country enjoy today. We have lost a good friend who also became a part of our family. We got to know George on a personal level shortly after the passing of his beloved Mary. We would help him with several home improvements and with chores he was not able to do by himself. He would frequently come to family dinner on Sundays and holidays and took turns taking each other out to dinner at his favorite restaurant, the Clipper Inn. He loved children and enjoyed being with his Niece’s family, our family and keeping in touch through the many years with his foreign-exchang e student “son” from Turkey. George was a good, kind and caring person who will be sorely missed. God bless you,George, Rest In Peace. We will raise a Manhattan in your honor. - Cranda & Geoff Burghardt

I am so sadden about Dr. Forbes death. He was my principal in high school and we all had the upmost respect for him. Terry Weller and I were brother and sister to their exchange student son, Ilhami. Mary and Dr. Forbes always joined us for our class reunions and they were wonderful AFS parents. I am blessed to have known the Forbes and they were both such an asset to the educational field!

George was a wonderful man and superb educator. I first met him when he was the study consultant for the merger of the Belleville and Henderson School Districts. Since that time, I have seen and talked with him at many New York State Retired Teachers Association events. He contributed so much to the TI School District, his community and the Association. We have lost a great educator and true friend.

What a sad day for Clayton. Dr. Forbes was always a joy to catch up with, whether we saw him at the gym, at a Clayton Community Band concert or at one of Clayton's many summer events. His travel stories always made for uplifting conversation, and his joyful, kind, young-at-heart way of living was inspirational. He was someone who truly made a difference in the lives of others in this community. We are so grateful and happy to have known him.

I have wonderful memories of George Forbes and his involvement in the Clayton Community. He developed the popular Post Card/Stamp weekend at Recreation Park. He was such fun to be around, and always a professional. One of those people you are glad that you knew.

Dr. Forbes was an extremely competent Superintendent of Schools for Thousands Islands Central. He was a caring person and administrator who was admired by many. He balanced his professional commitments with community service that went on long after he left the superintendency . We always enjoyed the chance to visit with George and his wife, Mary at social events. Charlie & Norma Bohlen

Clayton has lost a fine gentleman who was totally committed to students at every grade level and even into
their college and workforce careers. We had many opportunities to be at his side over the years and attest to his dedication to the 1000 Islands region and his unending quest for knowledge about the cultures of the many countries he visited over the years. He found great pleasures in the successes of his students in nearly every corner of the world. RIP, dear friend. You will be in our hearts forever. Cary & Janet Brick
